What is a digital video recorder?

Digital video recorder (DVR), that is, digital video recorder, uses hard disk recording compared with traditional analog video recorder, so it is often called hard disk recorder, also known as DVR.

It is a computer system for image storage and processing. It has the functions of long-time video recording, recording, remote monitoring and control of image / voice. DVR adopts digital recording technology and is far superior to analog monitoring equipment in image processing, image storage, retrieval, backup, network transmission and remote control. DVR represents the development direction of TV monitoring system and is the preferred product of TV monitoring system in the market.
The digital video recorder has its own built-in hard disk drive. Users can start recording without inserting any type of storage media. When analog camera recording is involved, digital video recording supports functions such as remote access, motion detection, real-time playback, recording and backup. For home entertainment, TV signals directly enter the digital video recorder, and then converted into digital format with the help of MPEG-2 encoder. From there, it is transmitted to two different targets, one to the hard drive for storage and the other to the TV screen for viewing. The newer version of digital video recorder can record different videos from different channels at the same time.
Compared with other video recording methods, digital video recorder has many obvious advantages. Compared with other similar devices, the digital video recorder system is easy to set up and use. They also require less storage space and can provide higher image quality. Digital video recorder also has faster data retrieval speed and anti noise ability.
However, compared with video management software or network video recorder, compared with other systems, digital video recorder will not be able to support multiple cameras on a single system and can not process so many frames per second. They do not have the advantages of edge device processing capability of newer systems such as video management software and network video recorder.
